Easter, October half-term and the shoulder weeks between the high seasons all have their own charm here. Casa Almada is at its quietest and best-value during these weeks.

When to come in the off-season

  • January & February: the best nightly rates of the year, mild Lisbon days (10-16°C typical), quiet streets, fado houses still open. Best for couples, multigenerational stays and remote-working long stays.
  • October half-term: warm enough for outdoor lunches, Sintra forests at their best, low queues at the castle and Belém. Family-friendly.
  • Shoulder weeks: late November, early December, late February, early March. Cheap, quiet, walkable.
  • Christmas week: not quite off-season on price, but quieter than New Year. Christmas lights in Baixa, mild evening walks.

Why off-season works at Casa Almada

Casa Almada is at its best when Lisbon is calm. The apartment is south-facing, so the lounge gets the low winter sun all afternoon. The kitchen handles a long Sunday lunch when going out feels like effort. Blackout blinds throughout, plus heated rooms, plus Netflix and Disney+ in every bedroom, mean the days you don’t fancy walking are still good days. The rooftop terrace is unusable in heavy rain but lovely in mild winter light.

Day trips that come into their own off-season

Sintra in mid-winter has no queues for Pena Palace and the forests are at their most atmospheric. Cascais in October is still warm enough for the coastal walk. Belém on a January morning is the trip you should take with a coffee and the Jerónimos cloister to yourself.
